‘Tis the Season

For many ’tis the season
of
places to go
things to do
friends and family

For many ’tis the season
of
loneliness, painful memories
hunger, grief, and sadness

Breathe in joy, gratefulness, and thankfulness
breathe out compassion

Compassion for the many
who look at the calendar
and silently say Jan 2nd can not come soon enough

Joy for the many
who love everything about this season

Room to feel compassion, joy, and understanding
so the many, the few, and the silent
are seen, heard and understood

Enter the Garden

Enter the garden
which grew out of friendship
trust, and tender care
The delicate petals hold our secrets
gently and safely urging
us to let go, grow, and breathe
the colors of peace

Trusted Moon

The moon holds the secrets
of the trees
whispering in the night

Whispers of Autumn

Whispers playing off the breeze
entice us to look closer
at the bouquet of life
rising from summer’s warm hands.
We catch our breath
watching the spectacular
V-formations of birds
readying for their trip south.
Together, we ease into autumn.

Adventures of Yesterday

Adventures of yesterday
are the shadows that promise
that there is light
just beyond the curve.

Ageless

Throwing caution to the wind
dancing
running
skinny dipping in the river
secrets
singing in unison
off-key, on key, harmonized – back-up singing rock stars
cruising with the top down
THAT song…blast that song

Was that my back – my knee – my neck
the pain of play, of life, of age
Wait I need my glasses ~ there we go
What is gravity doing to my body – those used to be higher

They are playing THAT song,  Blast it!
throw caution to the wind
dance
run
skinny dip in the river
whisper secrets
sing loud, soft – any key
cruise with the top down
Smile – it’s life
We’re Ageless!

Barefoot

Feet soaking up the heat
lavender toes
sun glistening
birds singing
surrounded by trees, a chair, a stack of books

Freedom from shoes and socks
flip-flops resting by the door

The intensity when the energy
simultaneously surges upward
yet grounds and roots
connecting me to the earth

The ancients footfalls echo underneath me
pulling, comforting aftershocks of fire and dance
securing the tie to all who walked here before
and to all those who will walk in the future

On the same ground
I walk a different path
but I know our hearts are the same
our truth of love is the same
we do the best we can

In a flap of a butterflies wing
the simple flutter of the leaves
the buzz of the bee and the child’s laugh
once again it becomes clear
we are one…barefoot

Ease into Spring

The whispers playing off the breeze
entice us to look closer
at the bouquet of color
rising up
from winter’s cool hands

We catch our breath
and like
water rushing
around the rocks

we ease into spring

Moon

I believe the moon holds the secrets
of the trees whispering in the night

When I was younger
I knew it held
wishes and dreams, terror and screams

At times I’d look away
when reminded that its fullness
provided excuses for others to inflict pain

As if that rock in the sky
could provide permission; proclaim an edict
that on these nights as the season’s turn…

Then I learned that if it held the secrets in the night
It also held the truth
It’s deep craters holding the truth
safe and protected

Today when I heard the pull of the tides
and felt the expansion of emotions
I looked up at the big rock in the sky
and said
the moon is just the moon, and it is beautiful!

Tender Circadian Rhythm

My tender circadian rhythm
does not like to Spring forward
or Fall back.
It feels confused and lost
in the fog.
My usual disturbed and restless
sleep now has an assistant of
early a.m. risings; 4,5,6
oh, forget it, I’ll just get up!
I know it’s just for a few days
and mine is not the only complaint.
But it’s 6 a.m. and I’m wide awake
feeling that irritability song rising
to a crescendo.
I’ll stumble as I wait for my
tender circadian rhythm to remember
that it’s all okay
and part of this is
waiting for the warmth of May.
