Secrets of 1,000 Lifetimes

The secrets of 1,000 lifetimes
lay within those deep dark eyes.
When she sits upon the water
she shares her burden with the
ancient ears of the seas.
Breathing in, she closes her eyes
and feels the crest of the wave wash over her.
She is at Peace.

Ease into Spring

The whispers playing off the breeze
entice us to look closer
at the bouquet of color
rising up
from winter’s cool hands

We catch our breath
and like
water rushing
around the rocks

we ease into spring

Dancer in the Sky

She moves through the sky
pirouetting on pointe

Long sinewy arms
gracefully stretching
the expanse

Flowing skirt billowing
and swaying
she moves effortlessly
through the air

So tall, so beautiful
she opens my mind
and soothes my soul

The wind shifts
and I watch her float away
dancing, morphing
into someone else’s picture in the clouds

Overhead
the deep blue stage stand empty
and bright

As I turn to walk away
I catch the white
of another dancer in the sky

She Dances the Steps of Innocence

As she dances the steps
of beauty and innocence

even the waves and birds
stop and watch in awe.

Where Do You Get Your Oxygen From?

She is the embodiment
of the questions we pondered
on a sunny afternoon.

Knowing the hype of the
newest workshop and buzzwords
would all have their moment in time
we asked each other, What Comes Next?

What is…
The driver of contentment?
The reason to try one more day?
The song we sing to our inner-self?

With quiet wisdom, and wonderous curiosity
she asked, “Where Do We Get Our Oxygen From?”

Today I danced as if it was warm and sunny outside
As if the world can someday be just, fair and peaceful for All
Believing that alone and collectively we make a difference
to ourselves, our neighbors, and our world.

Smiling huge and with a nod to the snowbirds
soaring above me on this winter’s day
my thoughts went to my teacher, my friend
I thought back to that moment when she asked
“Where do we get our Oxygen from?”

And I answered aloud to that clear blue sky
I get my oxygen from
Love
Health
Family
Friendship
Kindness
Hope
Trust
Honesty
Laughter
Dance
Breath…Life

And I know without a doubt that my friend, my teacher
would look at all who reads/or hears this poem
and ask
“Where Do You Get Your Oxygen From?”

Finding Peace in your Inner Landscape

An inner landscape is a life you lead inside of yourself; a place no one else can go unless invited. Although it looks different for each of us, all inner landscapes have this in common: they are a place of refuge. If you look deep enough, you will be able to find images of your inner landscape in your mind; your own place of power and peace.

Today is a day where being able to tap into my inner landscape and find peace is how I need to stay grounded.

My inner landscape is multi-dimensional and serves more than one purpose depending on how I need to restore, rest, empower and breathe. One part of my inner landscape is a field of flowers. That’s where I go when I need to feel at peace. It’s a place where I can rest and restore my inner resources because I feel safe and protected there, with very little noise coming from the busy monkey-mind that tends to nag at me during the day.

Mostly my inner landscape is peaceful, warm and sunny; although, I also have a cliff I go to that is rugged and barren. There is one leaf-less tree there with a few wisps of grass growing up around it, but otherwise, it is bare. The cliff is jagged, gray and very rocky with the sound of a turbulent sea splashing thunderous waves against the rocks. That’s the inner landscape I go to when my life is stormy and I’m dealing with challenges that I’m not quite ready to confront.

When I’m there, I hear my inner voice of self-doubt, self-judgment, and shame. It’s a place I go to when I know I need to look at things about myself that are comfortably uncomfortable but I’m not yet ready to change. I sit on the edge of my cliff and listen to the water crashing up against the rocks. Even though it is a place I go to when my life is stormy, I love my rocky cliffs and the crashing water that surrounds me.

My inner landscape is different from my happy place.

My happy place is where I go to help me face the typical stresses of daily life. Sitting in a traffic jam, going to the dentist, standing in a long line sends me to my happy place. That quick take a deep breath to stave off the frustration place that we go to. My inner landscape is a place I go to for reflection. A place where I go deep inside of myself.

Can you visualize your inner landscape, your own place where of power and peace?

Together We Will Dance In The Sun

When we hear I’m sorry, and we release each other from needless pain
I’ll help you color in your tattered soul with the colors of the rainbow.

Together we’ll run through the fields of flowers that we dreamed of when we shivered in the nights.

We’ll risk making a wish, and imagine that we break the chains
reject the monikers, and run into the sunlight
dive into the ocean waves, and laugh out loud.

We’ll forgive ourselves for the pain and suffering that we saw
and that we endured.

We’ll understand that being an object, a tool, a creature
is words that they said and that they are lies.

Then you and I will understand that we are real people.
Made out of the same star stuff as all the other people in the world.
With skin, and a heart, and a soul.

If we can learn to trust each other
then we can let go of the skeleton hands that try to pull us down.
The ghosts that visit our sleep
will dissipate and we can close our eyes, and exhale before sleep.

Although we may carry the scars we will be one, whole, harmonious, safe.

I don’t know how long it will take.
I don’t know how to trust you and have you trust me.
But I’m committed to figuring it out.
The faces of evil have not won.

I want to live in the light, blinders off, whole and peaceful.
You get to have the same thing.

And one day when we trust each other, and the rain has stopped
together we will dance in the sun.
